Kaufman Hall Phase I

Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA

Kaufman Hall, an existing factory building located on a Brownfield site, was purchased by the college to be renovated to house the Environmental Studies, Geology and the new Center for Sustainability Education departments. The goal of phase one of the renovation project was to create a permanent home for the Center for Sustainability Education (CSE) and Geographic Information System (GIS) programs as well as provide additional teaching spaces, faculty offices and a student lounge. The CSE suite consists of five offices, a conference room, a resource library and a 10-intern work space. The new GIS lab provides six open plan computer stations, office space and a plotting room. Skylights and light tubes were introduced to the one story building offering classrooms and spaces not on the building perimeter natural daylight.
