Kaufman Hall Phase 2

Kaufman Hall Phase II
Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA

The new state-of-the-art greenhouse is part of phase two of the Kaufman Hall renovation project. The new facility is expected to have a transformative effect on sustainability education, interdisciplinary learning and the college’s science curriculum. The greenhouse facility will link together three independent climate controlled research zones, a general-use greenhouse area, a potting and preparation area, a research lab, and a 24 person classroom. The classroom will be shared between the greenhouse users and the Center for Sustainability Education. The project also addresses integrating the former industrial building into the Dickinson campus with a new entry and lobby, remodel of the exterior envelope, and the creation of a new plaza, and sustainable landscape that will become a living laboratory for the academic programs. Sustainable design features include: roof solar panels, sunshade solar panels, green screen, pervious paving, rainwater collection and storm water management system. The project is currently under construction and expected to be complete by November 2012.
