The Trellis

Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA

The Trellis, just north of the newly renovated Althouse Hall, provides a beautiful new landscaped area for the campus, a trellised “outdoor room” and a connection to The Quarry, an active social center for Dickinson students and staff. The shaded trellis area replaces the space of the former heating plant, located directly above the existing basement level electrical substation. The structure consists of painted aluminum suspended tube trellis with LED lighting, photovoltaic panels, ipe wood deck, green screen, and limestone walls. The trellised shade structure is surrounded by swales that will be dotted with an array of plants, trees and evergreen shrubs, all designed to channel storm water runoff from the roof of Althouse.
